Fast Team Names

As a home-based business, you’ll get endless phone calls year round from team moms asking how much you charge to put individual names on team caps.  How do you take the orders and still make money?

We set up the names as follows:

1.      Type in the first name.  Add a color change and type the next name directly on top of the first name.

2.      Use this same technique for the entire list of names.

3.      Hoop 2 single sheets of cut-away backing.

4.      Use a strong spray adhesive to “hoopless” embroider each cap.  (Stitch the first cap on the cut-away backing.  Use a knife-blade to cut out the backing on the cap, keeping the rest hooped. For each subsequent hat, use a piece of tear-away covering the hole you just created.)

  Helpful hints:

a.      Type the longest name first (this way your cut-away backing creates the largest “hole” needed).

b.      Mark lines on the cut-away backing so you know where to lay down the other caps.

c.   Digitize a “box” before the first name.  Cut away the box before stitching the first name.  This keeps all customers’ caps finished in a consistent fashion.

You can also use this technique for shirts or other items that require size matching.  To do this, add this additional step in the set-up:

1.      Create design files by garment sizes and call the design “small”, “medium”, etc.  Each design file contains the names needed for that one particular size.
